United States Treasurer Rosa Rios to Speak at CCCS of Greater Dallas October 19 Panel Events on Financial Literacy and Economic Recovery
Dallas - September 29, 2011 - On October 19, Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Dallas (CCCS) will host two free educational events featuring United States Treasurer Rosa Rios as a guest panelist to discuss financial literacy and economic recovery in our country.
This is the second consecutive year CCCS of Greater Dallas has hosted community-focused financial education events in October.
The financial literacy town hall, co-sponsored by The Dallas Bar Association Public Forum Committee, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Belo Mansion and Pavilion and will be open to the public. Rios will speak on the road to economic recovery, including resources available to impacted consumers and steps that both consumers and the community can take toward improvement. Distinguished panelists joining Rios in discussion include Ilyce Glink, author, television reporter, show host and award winning columnist for CBS Moneywatch; Pamela Yip, personal finance writer with The Dallas Morning News; Eloy Villafranca, regional community affairs officer with FDIC; Judge Martin Hoffman, 68th District; and Alfreda Norman, community affairs officer for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Todd Mark with CCCS will moderate the panel.
Prior to the public town hall, an invitation-only leadership breakfast and networking event will be held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas from 8-10 a.m. Rios and Glink will speak on women's leadership in financial literacy and the impact it has on the community. Regina Montoya, senior vice president and general counsel for Children's Medical Center of Dallas and Sally Crawford, partner with Jones Day and CCCS board member, will join the panel discussion which will be moderated by Alfreda Norman with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. About Rosa Rios
Prior to her confirmation as Treasurer in July 2009, Rios worked at MacFarlane Partners, where she was Managing Director of Investments. Before her time at MacFarlane Partners, Rios was a Principal for Red River Associates, a consulting firm which specializes in providing development, project management and executive management services to municipalities. Rios also served as the Director of the Redevelopment and Economic Development for the City of Oakland. Also in California, Rios served as Director of Economic Development for the City of Fremont, Development Specialist for the City of San Leandro, and Manager of the Union City Redevelopment Agency. At the beginning of her career, Rios worked in San Francisco as a Commercial Property Underwriter for the General Reinsurance Corporation. Rios is a Trustee of the Alameda County Employees' Retirement Association (ACERA) in California, and serves on the boards of the California Association of Local Economic Development (CALED), the Fruitvale Spanish-Speaking Unity Council and the Toigo Foundation. In addition, she is a Fellow with the Royal Society for the Arts. Rios received her Bachelor's degree from Harvard University.
