Dallas - June 2, 2011 - June is national homeownership month, and to celebrate, Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Dallas (CCCS of Greater Dallas) is partnering with HUD approved counseling agencies and HUD grant programs in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area to host a free Home Buying Expo on Saturday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Friendship West Baptist Church, 2020 West Wheatland Road, Dallas, Texas 75232.

In addition to CCCS of Greater Dallas, the event will be hosted by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Dallas County Home Loan Counseling Center, Urban League of Greater Dallas and North Central Texas, Enterprise Community Partners, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, and The Home Depot.

"With the current low interest rates and low price tag for homes, now is an excellent time to buy," said Todd Mark, vice president of education for CCCS of Greater Dallas. "However, it's important for buyers to be well informed of the purchasing process to ensure they are prepared for and financially secure in their investment."

Attendees of the Home Buying Expo will be able to meet with HUD approved counselors and industry professionals to learn:

  • The step-by-step process of buying a home

  • Why money planning is important to improve your credit score

  • How to qualify for special grant programs in the Dallas/Fort Worth area

  • What area down payment assistance programs are available

  • Where to attend a Home Buyer Education Class

  • How to get pre-qualified for a mortgage loan

  • "We know that homeownership promotes stable neighborhoods and communities. Research clearly demonstrates that children who live in homes their families own do better in school, and that homeownership is the cornerstone of most families' individual wealth," said Bob Cook, Field Office Director, Dallas HUD Office. "Homeownership is a 'win-win' situation for families and our communities alike."
