WHY: The classes are an extension of Congresswoman Johnson's and CCCS Dallas' efforts to protect borrowers from predatory lending practices, understand credit scoring and reports, and help prevent the rash of foreclosures that have plagued local homeowners. In an effort to promote financial literacy, community groups are encouraged to invite their members to the February 9th event.
"This is the time of year consumers become overwhelmed with debt," said Todd Mark, vice president of education for CCCS of greater Dallas. "Add in the housing crisis and consumers are feeling a world of hurt. We hope to educate and empower them toward a lifetime of financial freedom. Most importantly, we will review all of the options they have if they are behind on their mortgage, or even facing foreclosure. Lenders are more willing now than ever to offer work-outs, but homeowners need to know how to ask."
