CCCS DALLAS CREATES AWARENESS OF RIGHTS TO FAIR HOUSING CCCS Dallas Helps Homebuyers / Renters Detect and Deal with Discrimination
Dallas - June 28, 2007 - Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Greater Dallas, Inc. (CCCS), under a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), assists individuals who have reason to believe they may have been the target of discrimination when purchasing a home or acquiring an apartment. CCCS was one of three agencies in the state of Texas that was awarded a Fair Housing Initiatives Program (FHIP) grant.
The Fair Housing Law educational outreach grant supports CCCS-Dallas' efforts to inform prospective mortgagors and renters their rights on access to housing on a fair and equitable basis and how to address and prevent discrimination. The grant focuses on unlawful housing discrimination based on the following factors:
Race
Color
National origin
Religion
Sex
Familial Status (families with children under the age of 18, or who are expecting a child)
Handicap (if you or someone close to you has a disability)
In an effort to inform prospective homebuyers and renters, CCCS offers many free educational seminars including Housing: Can They Keep Me Out and So You Want to Be a Homeowner. CCCS also provides one-on-one debt and housing counseling to homeowners facing foreclosure from lenders and mortgage companies.
