Counselor

The Counselor will provide information related to budgeting, money management, debt management , housing issues, and consumer education. Counseling will be provided according to the CCCS Code of Ethics and ensure client confidentiality according to policy. Counseling may be provided in person, by phone or through the Internet.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Consumer Economics or equivalent work experience in related areas.
  • Must obtain certification as required by NFCC and maintain this status through completion of professional development units.
  • Must obtain certification on the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and maintain certified status.
  • Must maintain a positive criminal background check.
  • Possess strong communication, written and verbal skills.
  • Maturity and skills necessary to work with persons with financial problems in confidence and in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Ability to respect both clients and creditors.
  • Computer knowledge and data entry skills.
  • Type 40 words per minute.
  • Must continue to maintain a positive credit report.
  • Maintain valid driver's license, meet insurance eligibility requirements of CCCS' automobile insurance carrier and maintain state required minimum liability insurance levels on any personal vehicle used for company business.

    Responsibilities:
  • Assists clients in resolution of budget, housing and debt problems, using resources to impart information.
  • Interviews the client and implements the Debt Management Plan when necessary. Provides ongoing account maintenance.
  • Advocates on behalf of clients and stays aware of creditor policies to promote successful completion of the plan.
  • Work customer service system to ensure actions taken in a timely manner.
  • Answers all mail and returns telephone call promptly.
  • Contacts clients requesting to be dropped to assure clients have been adequately serviced throughout the DMP and advised of the consequences of dropping.
  • Handles client grievances.
  • Stays current on all new procedures and computer enhancements.
  • Provides fill-in coverage for other branch locations when necessary.
  • Assist in community outreach by making public appearances, creditor visits, attending workshops, and/or conducting seminars.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
